Yemena has lived in Zaowia all her life and neither married nor attended school. Because of this she is fully dependent on the sales of her carpets to sustain her livelihood. When she can’t make ends meet, her brother, who currently works in the northen Moroccan city of Tangier, provides needed financial support. If Yemena is able to sell more of her carpets, she hopes that she can live a comfortable, independent life in Zaowia and bring her brother back home.
This carpet is woven in the traditional flat weave style. However, the Amazigh motifs on this carpet have a unique texture as they are sewn in after the carpet is made. The hanbel has a bohemian chic feel and can accent any open space.
