Khadija was born in 1969 in the region of Ajoukak. She married a man who due to health complication is unable to work. To support him and their kids she works multiple jobs cleaning hotels, working in the fields, and occasionally selling her handwoven rugs. She moved to Ourika after her niece (the cooperative’s president) convinced her to join the cooperative to have a better chance to live off her weaving skills. Khadija specializes in Boucherouite and she hopes that her work with the cooperative will be the first step to a better life for her and her family.
This bohemian style rug is used to decorate houses especially the nicest rooms/guest rooms or during a celebration. Pile knot rugs are often offered as a gift for newlyweds and they are a must have in some tribes.
