MEET THE MAKERS
Rachida Bezzi
My name is Rashida Bazzi, I am 43 years old and single. I did not learn to read and write. I’ve worked in the cooperative for 6 years. I learned the craft of rugs from my mother. My idea was to get in a cooperative in order to help my family financially. I consider making rugs an art and I developed my style over the years and hope to help my cooperative to reach success.
Fatema El Haroui
My name is Fatima El Haroui, I am 47 years old, married and I have 4 children. I did not learn to read and write. I started working with the cooperative 6 years ago. I learned the craft of rug weaving from my grandmother. I joinded the cooperative because I love making rugs and weaving. My goal with this cooperative is to have a stable financial income and also to develop our cooperative in order to help rural women who are in great need of it.
VISIT THE VILLAGE
Cooperative Tizi Nougdal hosts visitors in their village — share tea, watch the artisans at work, and see the craft up close. Visits start at $17 per person, and most of it goes straight to the group.
