In the 1970's, the Melil Valley, approximately 90 kilometers from Taza, experienced a severe drought and produced record low yields. The drought was so severe that many families in the valley decided to relocate and find work else where. Ahmed's family was among them. So at the age of six years old, Ahmed moved to the city of Fez and quickly tried to find work anyway he could. He soon learned how to work with metal and has since become an expert metalsmith. Today, Ahmed serves as the treasurer of the association and uses his sales to support his wife and family.
