The iconic Tahrouit are seen practically everywhere in Saharan Morocco as it is one of the most common pieces of clothing worn by women of the area. The Tahrouits are defined by black fabric stitched with intricate designs in neon colors. The designs stem from a blend of traditional Amazigh and Saharan cultures and most designs carry special meaning. For example, some designs note if a woman is married or if a woman is single. Although Taharouits are worn by the local women as pieces of clothing in Goulmima, they can alternatively be used as scarves, or home decorations such as bedcovers or curtains.

MEET THE MAKERS
Kinza Nou
Kinza has lived in Goulmima all her life. While Kinza never finished school, she has continued to learn through locally provided literacy courses. Kinza started off working with the association through knitting but later improved her skills and now works on Tahrouits. She hopes that the association will continue to grow so it can help the people in Goulmima. In her free time, Kinza helps out with household chores at home.
Houria Kadiri
Houria was born in 1975. She settled down in Goulmima after marriage and now she has 4 kids. She only got to study for two years in primary school before dropping out. She gained experience in knitting thanks to the local women's association that teaches women how to make all kinds of local and cultural costumes.
