Khadija is a Tadula Zanfi native and was born in the village in the early 1980’s. Khadija is married with four children. While she never attended school, Khadija is currently enrolled in her association’s literacy classes. She learned how to weave from her mom and her sister and specializes in pile knot rugs. She works at the association only in her free time as there currently isn’t enough work yet. However, she hopes that in the future, the association will improve and be able to provide her and her fellow weavers with a better life filled with more work opportunities.
The designs made by the association are rooted in the long weaving history of the region. Many of these rugs, known as Taznakht rugs, are made distinct by bright reds and yellows, colors that represent the landscape in which the rugs were made. These bohemian style rugs have a contemporary feel while incorporating traditional Moroccan designs.
