Before you apply — what to expect

Artisan residencies take place in remote, rural villages and are intentionally authentic: you live much as the community does.

• Accommodation is basic — facilities may include squat toilets and simple bathing.
• These homes sit within working farmland, so expect farm life, including insects such as flies.
• Villages are remote. The nearest hospitals are in the cities, not nearby. If you have health conditions or tend to fall ill while travelling, we do not recommend an artisan residency.
• These stays are remote and isolated, with food, routines, and surroundings very different from home. If you have a history of mental-health challenges, we don't recommend an artisan residency — there's more on why below.
• Travel insurance is required — you must hold valid travel insurance for your whole stay.
