Boucherouite rugs are made from shredded recycled clothing or fabrics woven together in the shape of the imagination of the woman who weaves it. Traditionally, when wool became too expensive or too difficult to find and a rug was still needed, women turned to what fabrics they could find. Now, these colorful bohemian rugs add warmth to any space.
Naima was born in 1976 in Ksar Gaouz, which is a small village just outside of Beni Moussi. She is the current treasurer of The Cooperative Zohour Development of Women and can often be found mentoring young girls in weaving, passing along the skills she learned for her mother. Naima is one of the few educated women of the cooperative, she attended the Dar Al Quran, which is an educational institution that promotes cultural and religious aspects in Moroccan society. She hopes to improve the quality of the local production through training and practice, and also by conducting research about sites related to traditional crafts.
