Handmade and designed by Cooperative Tifawin
Meet the Artisans
Born in 1977 in Azrou, Mina Achtouk is married to a mason. Together they have two sons in primary school. It was very important for Mina that her sons attend school because she didn’t get that chance growing up in poverty. Instead, she learned how to weave from the women in her family. When she got married she used her skills and sold her handwoven rug to finance her sons’s education. Mina specializes in boucherouite. When the cooperative Tifawin opened its doors in 2014, she joined it so she could gain control over her own income and work with and learn from other weavers.
Latifa was born in 1991 in Douar Askour. She studied until her first year of middle school but culdn’t keep attending because it was too far from the village. She later married and divorced before joining the cooperative to live off of her weaving skills that she was taught when she was younger by the women in her family.
Fatima was born in 1982 in douar Tamshi a douar nearby Ourika. She has 5 kids and her husband works as a waiter in one of Ourika’s cafes. She learned weaving from her mother when she was younger. She joined the cooperative so she can enjoy weaving with other artisans and also make a living from it and financially help her mother.
