Meet the Artisans
Aisha was born in Naqeb, and got married there. She has 4 sons and 3 daughters. 3 of her sons and 2 of her daughters got married. Aisha is a grandmother now. Aisha never went to school, but she learned knitting from her mother when she was 12 years old. She takes care of her house and her children, like any housewife of her region. After her husband died 12 years ago, she had to work and was able to earn some money from cattle breeding. One day, an american organization visited the region and convinced women to create the association. After that, women went to a nearby city called Ouarzazate, under the supervison of that organization, to learn from experiences and ideas of the associations that existed already in Ouarzazate. After that visit, Aisha gathered some women, and they all decided to found the association. Aisha was selected as the president of the association by those female members. The result of the creation of the association is beautiful artwork and products that symbolize the traditions and bright colors of the local culture. Aisha wishes all the best and continuity to the association and its members. She hopes that all women of the association can be able to have decent lives, be independent, and do what they love to do and do it best. She hopes one day she will visit Mecca to do Hajj.
