Handmade and designed by Stone Carvers Of Setti Fatma
Meet the Artisans
Mohammed Ait Lhocein
Born in 1971, Mohammad is married and a father of three daughters and a son. He learned stone carving from his father at the age of 15. Living in a small village, they weren’t able to selling products on their own and had to sell to middlemen. After a while they realized they were spending more time and money and they were making so his father gave up the craft. Years later Mohammed decided to move to the village of Setti Fatma in the Ourika Valley where many visitors stopped by, as he hoped to have a better opportunity in selling his work directly to customers. But once he arrived and settled there he realized it was very hard to get any customers without paying their guides, and artisans who refused to go by the guides’ words were sure to be alienated. By opening an online store, Mohammed hopes to sell directly to customers for fair prices, to be able to manage his own business and to improve his craft.
