Meet the Artisans
Zainab was born in Amizmiz in 1971 and is currently married. As a young girl, she was unable to attend a formal school. However, she was able to enter into a literacy department and learn basic reading and writing. She now uses weaving as a way to express herself and earn an income. She joined the cooperative as a way to market to many people, and hopes to gain an audience both nationally and internationally. She makes all types of rugs and hopes they will find a place in your home.
Sharifa Al-Hassan was born in 1982. She is currently married and the mother to three children. Like many women in the area, she was unable to attend school due to family circumstances and distance. However, she was able to learn weaving from her mother. She joined the cooperative as a way to help teach other girls in the community how to weave. She knows that weaving is not only an important art form, that they must keep preserved, but a way for many women in the area to earn an income.
