Boucherouite by Cooperative Tifawin

Boucherouite rugs are another type of rugs used to decorate houses. They were originally made and used by people who couldn’t afford wool and would instead use old clothes and rags to weave their rugs. Now they offer bright and warm accents to any space.

She attended primary school but had to stop after 4th grade because, like most families in rural areas, her family was afraid to let her go to and from school as she started growing up. Later, Zahira married a man from the region and learned weaving from her mother-in-law. She started working at the cooperative when it first opened in 2014 so she could make a living out of her skill and be around other artisans. She hopes that one day, their work will be renowned worldwide.
